| | | Research on government lending by Misum affiliates and SHoF researchers Gustav Martinsson and Christian Thomann helped Riksrevisionen (Sweden National Audit Office) evaluate Sweden's pandemic tax deferrals. The report examines whether the deferrals supported financially viable firms, improved liquidity, and crowded out private credit. You can read more about the study here.

| | | New research on enhancing decoupling in business models for sustainability
Misum will be part of a new research project funded by Mistra, titled "Decoupling inBusiness Practice via Business Model Life Cycle Assessment and Market Shaping (DELISH)."Led by Professor Henrikke Baumann from Chalmers University of Technology and Misum Affiliate Suvi Nenonen from Stockholm School of Economics, this three-year project focuses on developing the Business Model Life Cycle Assessment (BMLCA) method. This method combines economic and environmental data to measure and reduce the environmental footprint of business models. By linking it with market shaping strategies, the project aims to identify and implement activities that support decoupling. The goal is to provide practical insights for businesses and refine BMLCA for sustainability analysis. Through theoretical work, modeling, and case studies with industry partners, the project hopes to inspire more businesses to adopt sustainable practices and build capacity in this field.

A research paper by Misum affiliates Gustav Martinsson, Christian Thomann, Laszlo Sajtos, Per Strömberg has been featured in the Financial Times as a highly commended academic paper with impact. The paper discusses the effect of carbon pricing on firm emissions. FT has lauded the research among others, as causing tangible societal and scientific contributions. Upcoming project on primary education in India
|
| Misum is excited to announce a new research project in collaboration with Swedish Industry for Quality Education in India, Pratham Sweden, and Pratham India. This initiative will evaluate the impact of an education program designed to enhance primary school children's learning levels, alongside a mother engagement program aimed at encouraging mothers to support their children's education at home. Misum Executive Director Martina Björkman Nyqvist and co-author Andreas de Barros lead the research and will apply the Nobel Prize-winning methodology of randomized controlled trials to assess the program's effectiveness.

| | | Grant received by Misum Affiliate Laurence Romani
Our Misum Affiliate, Professor Laurence Romani, together with Professor Andrea Voyer and Dr. Paolo Velásquez have received a research grant from Riksbankens Jubileumfond for a new project on "Solving the integration challenge of high-skilled migrants: the central role of merits". This interdisciplinary study investigates the integration of high-skilled labor migrants (HSMs) in Sweden, challenging the assumption of "meritocratic integration." By exploring the "skill paradox" of underemployment and the "integration paradox" of social inclusion, the research aims to understand how HSMs' merits are defined and valued. Utilizing diverse data sources, the study contributes to both management and sociological literature on migration and integration.

Navigating Expertise in a Changing Climate"

| On December 11th, Misum hosted Tanya Fiedler, Senior Lecturer and Scientia Fellow at the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk and Response and School of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, UNSW Business School. Tanya provided her insights into the changing face of expertise in the context of complex coupled systems (Liu et al. 2015, 2007) – as exist when humans employ judgement and decision-making to account for nature, including climate-related risk. We extend our thanks to Tanya Fiedler and all participants who attended the seminar and contributed to this enlightening discussion.
