| On December 11th, Misum will host an open seminar with Tanya Fiedler, Senior Lecturer and Scientia Fellow at the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk and Response and School of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, UNSW Business School. Tanya will provide her insights into the changing face of expertise in the context of complex coupled systems (Liu et al. 2015, 2007) – as exist when humans employ judgement and decision-making to account for nature, including climate-related risk.

| "Performance management in the prosocial market economy: a new paradigm for economic performance and sustainability"
Misum Affiliate Jan Pfister and his colleagues from University of Turku offer a pathway for organizations to be both economically successful and environmentally and socially responsible. The study introduces the "prosocial market economy", a model that encourages cooperation, ethical behavior, and sustainability. It argues that organizations focusing on collaboration and collective well-being, rather than short-term self-interest, are more likely to thrive in the long run.

| "Bringing morality back in: Accounting as moral interlocutor in reflective equilibrium processes"
Sustainability discussions raise moral concerns about customer and employee safety, community welfare, environmental sustainability, and human rights. Accounting for sustainability has got a fundamental challenge: accounting has been seen as ignoring, rather than incorporating values other than the financial "bottom line". Misum Affiliates, Professor Kalle Kraus and Associate Professor Anette Mikes, question this generalization and, based on evidence from case studies in two high-reliability organizations, they open the possibility of accounting processes that in fact engender moral reflection.

How can foreign aid impact female empowerment? While foreign aid's impact on economic growth has been widely studied, its effect on gender equality and female empowerment has received less attention. Maria Perrotta Berlin, Anders Olofsgård, and Evelina Bonnier explore through this study how aid impacts indicators like agency in decision-making, control over household resources, and attitudes towards gender norms. It reveals that while general aid positively affects empowerment outcomes, particularly in areas of female agency and women's sexual and fertility preferences, gender-targeted aid enhances these effects.

| | | Misum PhD graduate wins Oscar Sillén Award
Friederike Döbbe, our affiliate and PhD graduate, has been awarded the prestigious Oscar Sillén Award for best doctoral thesis in business administration. Her work reveals a growing trend of placing responsibility for sustainable practices on consumers, a shift that can hinder effective climate action by focusing on individual choices rather than institutional or collective changes. Döbbe is currently at the University of Bath.

| | | Grant received by Misum Affiliate Laurence Romani
Our Misum Affiliate, Professor Laurence Romani, together with Professor Andrea Voyer and Dr. Paolo Velásquez have received a research grant from Riksbankens Jubileumfond for a new project on "Solving the integration challenge of high-skilled migrants: the central role of merits". This interdisciplinary study investigates the integration of high-skilled labor migrants (HSMs) in Sweden, challenging the assumption of "meritocratic integration." By exploring the "skill paradox" of underemployment and the "integration paradox" of social inclusion, the research aims to understand how HSMs' merits are defined and valued. Utilizing diverse data sources, the study contributes to both management and sociological literature on migration and integration.

 | On October 4th, Misum hosted the annual sustainability forum at the Stockholm School of Economics under the theme 'Striking a Balance: Navigating Inevitable Trade-offs for Achieving Sustainable Markets'. The event brought together esteemed academic scholars and industry leaders that delved into the imperative of navigating trade-offs for achieving sustainable markets. Central to our discussions was an acknowledgment of the intricate challenges facing sustainable markets and the role of the financial market in addressing them. | Breakfast Seminar on Living Wages
On Tuesday, November 12th, Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) team and Misum had the pleasure of co-hosting a breakfast seminar with the UN Global Compact Network Sweden, focused on implementing living wages across supply chains. The discussion centered on practical steps companies can take to integrate living wages into their operations, with insights on setting clear goals, evaluating current wage levels, and addressing challenges within global supply chains.
